Shot during the summer of 2005 on location at Lake of the Woods in Pinetop/Lakeside, Arizona as well as Diamond Creek
The bull featured in the video was actually roaming around freely while we were driving around to shoot. We were ready in case it decided to charge, but it never did.
The shot of the car down at the bottom of the ravine is actually sort of a joke with my kids. My parents took me to Diamond Creek when I was little, and I told them the story of a car that supposedly drove off a cliff. While walking around scouting areas to shoot, we walked to the edge of a ravine, and there one was!
If youever have a chance, ask the kids and I about 'Old Platty'.
Lakeside showcases the pine country of Northern Arizona, and is really meant as a polar opposite of what you see in 'The Lovesong of Southern Arizona'. Whereas the focus of 'Lovesong' was the beauty of the desert and the passage of time, 'Lakeside' is about life and the here & now. This video is filled with green trees, shimmering lakes, and the animals that freely roam the countryside (everything from ducks to bulls!). This is the Arizona most people don't think about. It's not all desert here!
I absolutely love the way that the water showed up on camera. The Pinetop/Lakeside area is filled with a natural beauty that films very easily. This area is of special significance to me, as my parents used to take me camping up around here and the Whiteriver area. When it came time to go film the northern part of the state, I knew where I wanted to go.
